Most of the prep work is genuinely minimal — that is part of the point of booking mobile detailing rather than doing it yourself. A few small things beforehand do make a real difference to how smoothly the appointment runs and how good the result can be, so it is worth spending five minutes on a simple mobile detailing checklist before the detailer arrives.
Before the Detailer Arrives
Clear out personal items and valuables. Loose change, sunglasses, documents and anything you would rather not have handled or misplaced should come out beforehand instead of being left for the detailer to work around.
Remove large loose items from the boot. Sports gear, shopping bags, tools and anything bulky that is not part of the car should come out so the space can be cleaned properly rather than cleaned around.
Make sure the car is genuinely accessible. A driveway blocked by a second car, a locked gate or a vehicle parked in an unreachable spot all cost time on the day. Confirm access before the appointment, not after the detailer arrives.
Secure pets separately. An open car door and an excited pet can complicate an otherwise straightforward appointment. A safe, separate area for the duration works better for everyone.
Water and Power — Quick Check
If you have not already confirmed this at booking, check whether there is an outdoor tap within hose reach and a nearby power point. Tell the team beforehand if either is unavailable so the correct setup can be planned rather than adjusted on arrival. Our mobile detailing guide explains how home and workplace appointments operate across Perth.
What to Point Out During the Walkaround
The pre-job walkaround is the right time to set expectations and flag anything that could otherwise be missed. Mention:
- Specific stains you hope will lift, including roughly how old they are
- Existing scratches, dents or marks, so nothing is misattributed afterward
- Leather seats or sensitive trim that may need particular products
- Aftermarket fittings such as dash cams, parking sensors or window decals that should be treated carefully
Mentioning these details before work starts helps the detailer prioritise the right areas, explain what is realistically achievable and avoid confusion at handover.
A Few Things Worth Avoiding Beforehand
Do not wash the car immediately beforehand. The exterior wash is part of the appointment. This is especially important before paint correction or coating because recently applied products can interfere with surface preparation.
Do not apply interior cleaners, conditioners or tyre shine right before the booking. Residue from consumer products can interfere with professional-grade products, particularly ahead of protective treatments. See the paint protection and specialist services available through Ready Wheels.
Do not remove a child car seat unless you are comfortable reinstalling it correctly. A detailer can usually work around an installed seat, or you can ask during booking whether removal makes sense for your vehicle and seat type.
After the Appointment
Interior work involving shampoo or steam needs drying time before normal use — often a few hours in good conditions and longer when it is humid or the vehicle is kept in an enclosed space without airflow. If a coating or sealant has been applied, there may also be a curing window before the car should get wet. The team should explain the relevant aftercare at handover based on the work completed.
